Brainerd school district officials approved the purchase of a house on South Fifth Street. It will be rented out until school officials determine another use for it.
The Brainerd School Board made the unanimous decision Monday at its regular meeting.
The property at 711 S. Fifth St. will be bought at the negotiated price of $84,000. The lot is across from the high school and it adjoins a few other plots the district owns.
There are no plans yet for development at the parcels of land.

Approved the addition of Pequot Lakes School District in the gymnastics cooperative. Other schools in the cooperative are Brainerd, Staples-Motley and Crosby-Ironton.
Accepted the letter of retirement from Tom Fitzpatrick as school attorney. Fitzpatrick is retiring from law at year’s end. Officials also approved putting out a request for proposals for legal services.
Renewed the school resource officer agreement with the city of Brainerd. The two-year renewal calls for a 2 percent increase in each school year 2013-14 and 2014-15, with no changes to the presence of the officer. The event coverage rate would remain the same at $56.25/hour for the next two years. On a total cost basis, this represents an average annual increase of 1.76 percent per year.
