Start forming teams for Amazing Race event
The fourth annual Amazing Race event will take place on Sept. 28 in Walker this year as part of the Fall Has it All Celebration.
Race organizers decided to reduce team sizes. Teams of two to four members will have even more chances to be recognized at the finish line. Awards for craziest costumes, youngest and oldest competitors, and most money raised, have been added this year, in addition to the traditional prizes for the teams crossing the finish line fastest.
The competition kicks off at Ostlund Field, and then winds through the streets of Walker on a 2.5-mile course. Teams will encounter a competition after each leg of the race that one or all of the team members must complete. Once completed, the team will have their “passport” punched and can continue on.
Each team member is asked to raise or donate a minimum of $50 in order to register. However, prizes will be awarded both for the individual who raises the most money in pledges as well as the team with the highest tally.
The event is sponsored by the HOWA Family Center and Working Together Coalition. It raises funds for the two organizations
Working Together Coalition is a non-profit organization comprised of community members in the Northland, Pine River-Backus, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley school districts working to prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs among youth through community collaboration.
The HOWA Family Center serves Hackensack, Onigum, Walker and Akeley and is dedicated to enriching lives through mentoring for children, families and communities, and administers the Kinship mentoring program.
