On Sept. 15, staff at Camp Ripley will display their military vehicles and equipment for the benefit of the public during the Annual Open House 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
“It’s a great opportunity to come out and see the vehicles and equipment that Minnesota Soldiers and Airmen use to defend America’s freedom and assist communities in times of distress,” said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Dan Bednarek, community relations manager at Camp Ripley.
The tradition of an Open House goes back as far as the Civil War, when local commanders would beat the drum encouraging young men to join the Army. Today an Open House is held to give the community and military family members a closer look at the equipment the Army uses for training. This year the theme of the Camp Ripley Open House is “Heroes of the Home front”.
An opportunity to recognize those behind the scenes, and those who continue to help on the home front.
“Every organization has a sponsor, a support system and the Minnesota National Guard is no different,” said Bednarek. “We owe a lot to the families and friends who get behind us in our hour of need. It is their efforts that make our sacrifices all worthwhile,” he added.
Camp Ripley will display some of the latest and most advanced combat vehicles and weaponry. Aircraft and other equipment will also be available for public viewing as well as a large variety of informational booths, food venders and activities for the benefit of the public, Service-members and their families. Additionally, Humvee rides will be available.
Gates open at 10 a.m. A ceremony honoring family members, employers and civic organizations will take place at 1 p.m.
