A 21-year-old Ironton resident was seriously injured in a broadside crash that killed a teenage passenger.
The crash was reported at 6:34 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of highways 73 and 1 in St. Louis County.
Whitney Cragun, 21, of Ironton, was driving a Honda Accord west on Highway 1. The Minnesota State Patrol reported it appeared Cragun went through the posted stop sign at the intersection and collided with a semitractor carrying spring wheat. There were five people in the Honda Accord. No alcohol was detected with the driver. Cragun was airlifted to St. Mary’s in Duluth along with two passengers, Jonathon Vickers, 22, in serious condition and Ivana Brokesova, from Slovakia, with non-life threatening injuries.
Another passenger, Vatilina Kadurina, from the Ukraine, was not reported injured. Elizabeth Hill, 19, Liberty, Mo. was deceased. It was unknown if Hill or some of the other passengers were wearing seat belts. Cragun and the driver of the other vehicle were reported to be wearing seat belts.
The driver of the semitractor, Leslie Abraham, 40 of Rainy River, Ontario, Canada, was not reported injured.
