Presentation on bears
set for Nisswa Community Center
NISSWA — Seasons With the Bears, an exciting presentation about the life of the black bear, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at the Nisswa Community Center. Glenn and Nancy Krause, researchers from the North American Bear Center and Wildlife Research Institute, have been studying, collaring, tracking and watching black bears for the past 14 years in the Ely area. They’ve formed trusting relationships with six study bears and their offspring. Slides will be shown, including those of different types of dens. They’ll also share the process of recording data and the use of telemetry in their research.
The North American Bear Center gained fame in 2010 when researchers placed a webcam in a black bear’s den allowing people around the world to watch as that bear, Lily, gave birth to her first cub.
The program is suitable for both youth and adults and is sponsored by the Nisswa area’s Black Bear 4-H club. Donations are accepted at the door and refreshments will be available. Interested persons may sign up for a door prize.
