My wife was on jury duty last month and they already had that rule. I thought it was great-she couldn't check up on me all day!!
Hein
Hein... do you need constant monitoring? You misbehaving? (snickering)
Boy tell her
I feel sorry for the person she was trying to convict. NOT!!!
Over the top
Seems these restrictions are going too far! How in heck is a cell phone a security risk? A cup of coffee? Someone please educate us about how these items are a security risk! How about banning cigarette packs too, might have something hidden in there you know!!!
Control
It's all about control!
When you fill a building
with people that have guilty concsciences, they may want protection from others. Even the loftiest judge has faults and uses the bathroom. The difference is that the law profession has elevated them to the "Annointed" status. I think they fear their own decisions and sometimes I don't blame them a bit.
No cell phones?
I hope no one has to use a cell phone to call for help.
What
Oh my, what did people do before cell phones! Good grief! They can leave a voice mail can't they? When you get a recess then go look. Do you answer your phone in the doctor's office during a check up? Or the dentist office? Or in a theater? No one is that damn important that it can't wait till break.
Nothing beats standing in the pouring rain or blowing cold
Is this serious? Who the heck passed these rules? So you're telling me that a person preparing for their case on a laptop, poses a security threat? Or looking for a last minute clarification phone call or email must now go stand outside of the building in the pouring rain because standing inside is posing a security threat to the "trained" correctional officers and the general public inside of the building?
A cellphone, tablet, these are things that lawyers rely on to do their job just as an officer relies on his training. Crow Wing County has just plain gone too far.
I think it only applies to
I think it only applies to the general public.
Cell Phones
People do it to themselves, many times I have had to listen to conversations, usually in loud voices, I guess it works better if you speak louder, at resturants, stores, and other public places. Not to mention the ability to record both video and audio. How would you like to see part of a court procedings that you maybe involved in on social media? Or someone checking their text messages or texting while court is in session. There is a place and time for use of these devices.
I could see the jurors
playing games and texting their friends. Seems likely the defendants would have cause for retrial or a mistrial, if they discovered the jurors were not paying attention...or recording the trial...or taking photos for Facebook!
Blake
I see a business opportunity here.. One could start an umbrella rental service and sell handwarmers, too..In this county you couldn't find many places with this high of a traffic volume...
no photos please....
I'm guessing photo taking opportunites is at the top for reasons to ban such electronic items, there are some cases that aren't open to public for protection reasons.....
Storage
I say offer storage lockers at least . Not everyone has a car who has business to do in the judicial building.
Marriage
So if you want To go have a "court house marriage" in crow wing county, don't worry about taking any pictures. Lol
Security issues
Bans are put in place because people use smart phones to take pictures of jurors, record hearings from inside the courtroom, and send text messages when officers move inmates through the buildings.
