20 years ago (1993)

Legislators will try several things to limit proposed college tuition hikes, said Sen. Roger Moe on a visit to Brainerd. Moe talked about the staggering tuition increase in Gov. Carlson’s budget, and spoke of his proposal to merge technical and community colleges.

30 years ago (1983)

40 years ago (1973)

A hold-up last night took $155 cash from the Clark service station at 8th and Washington Streets. Attendant Harley Hochstetter told police two men came in the office behind him and demanded the money, then pushed him into the back room. They got away in a blue 1956 Chevrolet.

60 years ago (1953)

Brainerd police and sheriff’s officers are on the lookout for a gunman who shot and wounded a highway patrolman south of Wadena. He’s driving a light gray two-door Ford with an upside down license plate. The car has bullet holes in it.

80 years ago (1933)

After 25 years absence from organized baseball, Brainerd looks to get a team in the revived Northern League, which would bring 15 to 30 men to Brainerd for the summer. The committee has agreed to lease Bane baseball park for a $500 season rental.

100 years ago (1913)

On February 25, the Eagles Lodge will initiate a class of 65. The occasion will be made an event of great interest in the order. Following the ceremony refreshments will be served and a musical program provided. March 25th the order will initiate another class.

40 years ago

I had a blue 56 Chevy back then. They must have caught these guys right away because I was never questioned. Now days I bet I would be pulled over by 10 squad cars and tazed--- just because.

I think he did at that time and

Harley worked there. I remember when that caper happened and had a T-Bird. There was a cop in town named Arlie Nubbie also at that time.

I asked his

Daughter & she said she thought it was 74 when he started?? but couldnt remember for sure.
