■ Two children and their driver injured in crash

BAXTER — A 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl — who were not belted — and their driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries Sunday in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 371 and Novotny Road in Baxter, reported the Minnesota State Patrol.

Gabe Swift and Grace Moberg were transported by North Ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, where they were treated and released. The driver, Dale L. Swift, 39, Cass Lake, also was transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

It was reported that Robert J. Pavik, 55, Pine River, was turning left crossing Highway 371 northbound with a pick-up pulling a large horse trailer, when a Buick LeSabre driven by Dale Swift struck the pick-up. The car was totaled. It was reported that both vehicles hit a Minnesota Department of Transportation sign.

It was reported that Sarah Rubel, 33, Pequot Lakes, was driving a Toyota Camry when she swerved to avoid the crash. The Camry hit an embankment and a sign and then went into the median.

Pavik and Rubel were not injured.

Assisting at the crash that was reported at 10:05 a.m. were the Baxter Police Department, Brainerd Fire Department and the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office.

If

If an adult chooses not to wear a seat belt fine, their dum a$$. But make sure the kids are. I don't care if they like it or not, you are the parent. Don't move the car until they do.

Nan I agree

Sounds like child endangerment to me. There should be charges against the driver.
