■ Photography program Saturday

at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park

Mille Lacs Kathio State Park will host a special program combining snowshoeing and outdoor photography on Saturday.

The Outdoor Photography Adventure For Beginners program is designed for kids and their families and also for those who are new at digital photography. Participants can bring their own digital camera, or use one offered by the park.

The activity will begin at 1 p.m. at the park’s interpretive center, with an indoor session covering photography equipment, techniques and tips. The group will then move outdoors, receive an introductory snowshoeing lesson, and go on a photo-excursion. Snowshoes and digital cameras are provided. Registration is required and limited to the first 25 people.

The activity is free of charge. A vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota State Parks. Vehicle permits may be purchased at the park office. Cost of a daily permit is $5, or $25 annually.

■ Ash Wednesday services planned

Truth Lutheran Church Ash Wednesday services will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season, a time for repentance and renewal. During the service ashes are placed on forehead of those attending the service as a sign of cleansing, church officials said.

Truth Lutheran Church meets at the Brainerd Hotel located on South Sixth Street in Brainerd.
