Posted: February 8, 2013 - 9:40pm

CAMP RIPLEY — More than 3,200 wreaths were removed from grave sites at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery and placed in trailers Feb. 2, officials with WreathsForTheFallen.org reported Friday.

Among those participating were a van full of Civil Air Patrol cadets from Brainerd along with their commander Capt. Marcel Kobberdahl;, a number of vehicles with soldiers from Camp Ripley, Boy Scout Troops and Patriot Guard members.

The wreath removal began at about 10:10 a.m. and by 10:20 a.m. all the wreaths had been removed and placed in trailers in what officials said was a new record.

Also on Feb. 2, the Little Falls American Legion performed a flag disposal ceremony after all the wreaths were removed.

WreathsForTheFallen.org officials thanked David Swantek, director of the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, and all the grounds keepers for providing the resting place for the country’s honored fallen veterans.
