Van located in pedestrian hit and run near Camp Ripley

Posted: February 7, 2013 - 12:42am

CAMP RIPLEY — The white van that authorities sought for its possible involvement in striking and seriously injuring a 34-year-old Little Falls man on Jan. 27 near Camp Ripley has been located, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

It has been determined the van in question was not the vehicle that struck Zebulon Retka, the state patrol reported, and law enforcement officials continue to seek a vehicle which might be older rather than newer with possible right front damage, possible right side mirror or windshield damage.

The suspect vehicle left the scene Jan. 27 after striking Retka as he walked east on Highway 115, about .2 miles east of the Camp Ripley Main Gate. Retka was found by acquaintances, who took him home. Several hours later he was transported by ambulance to St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls and then later transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with serious injuries.

Anyone with information about this case please contact Sgt. Doug Brown at 218-316-3026.
