Baby injured in two-vehicle crash still critical

Posted: February 6, 2013 - 9:59pm

PEQUOT LAKES — The baby, who was critically injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash reported at 8:41 a.m. Tuesday at the junction of Highway 371 and Crow Wing County Road 29, just south of Pequot Lakes, was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where she was in critical condition Wednesday.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the baby as Auna Haataja.

Auna’s mother, Jessica Haataja, 26, Brainerd, was taken to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd where she continued to be in fair condition Wednesday.

It was reported that Jessica Haataja was driving a Chevy Monte Carlo and traveling southbound on Highway 371 when she lost control on a curve, spun around and was hit by a northbound vehicle driven by Jason Parks, 39, Big Lake, who was not injured.

Watch over

God, watch over that sweet little gal.
I drove through that area yesterday and felt sick.
That area on the highway is generally slick.
