Former State Rep. Al Doty, DFL-Royalton, has joined U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan’s staff, the 8th District Minnesota Congressman announced Wednesday.
Doty, a native of Royalton, served as state representative from District 12B from 2007-2010. A former Royalton City Council member, and teacher/head wresting coach at Pierz Healy High School, he was vice chair of the Minnesota House Agriculture, Rural Economics and Veterans Policy Committee.
He ran unsuccessfully for the Senate District 9 seat now held by Sen. Paul Gazelka, R-Cass County, in 2012.
In his new capacity, Doty will work closely with Nolan on a wide range of agriculture, rural development, small business and veterans’ issues and projects throughout Crow Wing, Wadena, Hubbard, Cass and Morrison Counties.
“Al Doty’s experience in local and state government and education, as well as his lifelong involvement in nonprofit and volunteer organizations and wildlife conservation, will be invaluable in our efforts to build and rebuild our small towns, farms and locally owned businesses in this area,” Nolan said.

"Good Old boy" politics. Don't get elected and your buddy gives you a job. We need to SHRINKgovernment.
Great pick!
Doty is a stand-up guy. He's well-respected across party lines for his advocacy work for seniors. He knows ag. issues inside-out, has been a life-long hunter and conservationist, and a great friend of Ripley and veterans' issues. He'll be a top-notch asset for Novak in central MN. Great pick.
P.S.:
Of course you know I meant Nolan. Novak is my client. Doing too many things at once here. Great pick!
