Author Steve Glischinski of “Minnesota Railroads: A Photographic History, 1940–2012” will discuss his book at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brainerd Public Library.

Glischinski’s book illustrates history of Minnesota railroads from the romance of steam locomotives and luxurious passenger travel to the prosperous engines of transportation today. Glischinski began taking photographs of railroads in 1970, at the age of 13. Since that time, his photos of railroads in action have appeared in a number of books and numerous magazines. His first magazine articles on railroading were published in 1982, and his by-line has appeared dozens of times, mainly in Trains Magazine, for whom he serves as a correspondent. He also organizes railroad photography charter trips and the Lake Superior Railroad Museum’s “Railfan Weekend.” He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Glischinski is the author of seven books on railroading, including such topics as the history of the Burlington Northern Railroad, the Santa Fe Railway, regional railroads of the Midwest and the Wisconsin Central, co-authored with Otto P. Dobnick.

Glischinski resides in Shoreview.
