ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson says a person deemed mentally ill and dangerous should never be allowed to buy a gun.
Olson and a coalition of sheriffs, attorneys and mental health advocates who want changes to ensure treatment for the mentally ill to reduce the chances they will turn to violence.
Sheriffs want stronger background checks for gun buyers. They say all felony convictions, mental health court orders and other factors that would disqualify a gun buyer should be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension within 24 hours, and immediately entered into the background check system.
They also want police to have clear access to a person's court mental health records. And they want the state to address a lack of services for Minnesotans with untreated mental illness.

Mr Olsen & mental health advocates. It would be a really simple test. Ask'em if they Vote L or R?? Now I suppose that would be connected to racial profiling ehh??
Old farmer
I think you are giving senior citizens a bad name with your comments.
Are you really 72?

More like he's giving children a bad name by acting like one. Maybe he's 7 or 2 years old.
But , All my NRA friends have assured me this week that
Gun deaths per 100,000 people in Mali ,Honduras , and a whole bunch of other 3rd world countries where they HAVE "strict "gun control have higher rates of gun deaths than we have now in the USA.
2 weeks ago their logic was " No God in our schools"
Last week it was an F150 is more dangerous ( when operated by a drunk) than bullet going 3000 fps.
Im guessing next week gun owners will be shown to have fewer cavities .
At what point in time does the NRA actually agree with any ideas proposed as solutions to a real problem ?
Falls are the real problem...
•In 2009, about 20,400 older adults died from unintentional fall injuries.

Hot dogs can be a quick, easy
Hot dogs can be a quick, easy — and deadly — meal. Hot dogs are the perfect size, shape and consistency to block a child’s airway, and a WebMd report rates hot dogs as the top choking hazard for children. Choking killed about 2,500 people in 2009, according to the National Safety Council, and kids ages 3 and under are at the highest risk.

Don't forget grapes, either.
we need stricter hot dog
we need stricter hot dog laws, maybe get rid of the ones with the natural casing (assult hotdogs we will call them) first. Then after the next choking because someone irrsponsible left their hotdog laying around for anyone to eat ,we can get rid of the rest.

How many died from intentional fall injuries? Should falls be outlawed?

Data Privacy and background checks
Data privacy laws have been a major roadblock in information sharing . Granted data privacy has been helpful in some areas but they took a good thing and went to far. Until agencies can share information and work together a legitimate background check will not be sufficient for anything. The laws still protect those who are dangerous and you cannot lock someone up just because you think they may be dangerous. Unfortunately you have to wait until something actually happens. By then it is to late. All the rhetoric sounds good but actually gives the public a false sense of security. Data privacy and mental health facilities need the flexibility to disclose without fear of litigation. Even this is not going to prevent but it may help a little. If someone wants to obtain a weapon they will period.
Thanks for that
Very nice remark Nan. I dont ever want to get as old as that F&B guy!!!
Southie-Mom & Pops were born in 36 & still kicking so I will let you figure that out & all that matters is I am younger than Nan. Ha Ha
Oh that's funny! Don't let mentally ill people own guns, but
make sure they can vote. Considering the last election, I would say there were a lot of mentally challenged individuals out there!!! Just think, you can kill a few people with a gun, or destroy a whole country with a vote.
By the way, where was the administration's concern for gun
safety during Fast And Furious? Now Eric Holder, there's a real mental case!
Be careful
How about Lady Janet , Big Sis of Homeland security offering us on tweets advise on the cold weather.
If it is snowing, don't go out. If you do be careful and walk slowly as the sidewalk may be icy.
Don't shovel, but if you must, do stretches before you go out.
Blah, blah. from Lady Janet Former Arizona governor.
What does this have to do with Homeland Security, I ask?
If you can't be trusted with
If you can't be trusted with a gun you can't be trusted to vote
