Nolan bill would end Afghanistan funding

Posted: January 15, 2013 - 9:26pm

Calling for an end to America’s military involvement in Afghanistan, Minnesota’s 8th District Rep. Rick Nolan added his name as co-sponsor to a bill that would end funding for the U.S. war in Afghanistan.

“It’s time to stop building infrastructure in Afghanistan and start rebuilding America,” Nolan said Tuesday.

President Obama and many others including Nolan have repeatedly called for significant new investments to repair and rebuild America’s aging infrastructure, Nolan noted in a news release. To that end, Nolan added his name to a list of bipartisan co-sponsors to H.R. 200, “The Responsible End to the War in Afghanistan Act” (H.R. 780 in the 112th Congress).

The legislation limits war funding in Afghanistan to the safe and orderly withdrawal of all armed forces members and military contractor personnel from Afghanistan.

“The war in Afghanistan is now in its 13th year and has cost us over $600 billion. There is no military solution in Afghanistan and keeping our troops posted through 2014 will only delay the inevitable,” Nolan said.

Nolan said it’s time to end unsustainable wars of choice, reduce the U.S. military footprint and re-invest in America with projects that generate jobs.

“Here in the 8th District alone, there are more than 300 bridges and hundreds of miles of roads along with schools, court houses and parks in urgent need of repair and rebuilding.

Thanks for keeping your eye on the ball Rick Nolan ! * JOBS *

Unlike the Jr Congresswoman you work with ( Michele B) whose first bill of the year was to overturn Healthcare Reform ( for about the 40th time) .

Or the first bill co sponsored by our old buddy Paul Ryan (R) WI , to defund planned Parenthood.( for about the 40th time).

I guess the more things change , the more they stay the same for the yahoo republicons... Try to stay focused !

Agree Rick

Time to activate the CCC. Start with the healthy twenty-something group without a high school education for the manual type of work with options to earn a GED and trade, tap the expertise of technical and college grads, giving the opportunity to repay student loans and jumping over the employment hoop of needing experience in their respected field. Then work on up birth year by birth year until all the slots are filled to complete the work force needed to repair roads, bridges, schools, public buildings and parks.

Rick, I'm in full agreement!

End the war in Afghanistan. People have been fighting over that worthless piece of rock for 3000 years and there never has been a military solution.

So if we the people, all agree,

What's holding them up?
Who wants to stay there?

Follow the money!

What if...

the money trail ends with a large DFL contributor? :)

Seriously, what is the point of occupation after killing the leader of our enemy, Bin Laden? Those who were quick to pin Bush on "Victory in Iraq" should also pin Obama on eliminating Bin Laden.

To answer Southies question...what is the hold up? You won, again!

I agree with ending this conflict. By adding ones name to a bill does it become "His" bill?
