CASS LAKE (AP) — Three members of a Mississippi family died and one was critically injured on an icy highway in northern Minnesota, the State Patrol reported Sunday.
The one-vehicle rollover happed about 5:40 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 2, about nine miles east of Cass Lake. A pickup driven by Jeremiah Statham, 28, of Foxworth, Miss., was eastbound when it lost control on the icy highway, left the road, hit some trees and a stump, and came to rest on its roof, the Patrol said.
Statham’s wife, Catherine Statham, 27; son Jeremiah, 3; and daughter Emma, 1, died from their injuries. The father was taken to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth hospital in critical condition.
All four of them wore seat belts or other safety restraints and no alcohol was detected in the driver’s system, the Patrol said.
The accident scene is about 200 miles north of Minneapolis and about 130 miles west of Duluth. The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning for that part of northern Minnesota on Friday due to freezing rain.

Add commentThe AP needs to bone up
on their geography or Cass Lake moved to the UP of Mi!
Ummm...no
Maybe it's YOU who needs to bone up on your geography...unless you really think that the UP is WEST of Duluth.
As it is, who really cares? This was a tragic accident that killed almost an entire family. Get over yourself and your need to comment on every single thing that appears in the BD.
FNB-Good Catch
I also caught it. An accident 9miles east of Cass Lake is not 130 miles east of Duluth. Hey rockfish, re-read the article and then grab yourself a geography book. You're wrong. For someone with only 23 points, you sure come on a little hard with the flip-lip. You must be a lib. Wanna back up and start over with a different name. You'll only loose 23 points and you can perhaps change your image at the same time. It took me several months to create my bad image and you want to do it immediately.
I have 23 points because I
I have 23 points because I have a job, and a life, and I don't spend every waking moment commenting on every single article placed on here as some of you do. It must be sad to have nothing better to do.
But I guess it makes you feel important. Since you are always the one with the "right" answer.
Purposed
I know the AP gets a lot of their info from local sources but I didn't know if it came from BDD or Bemidji or Duluth Etc. The AP could have misprinted it also. The editors at the BDD should not be allowed to send articles forward to AP without senior personnel approval anyway. Remember that "Cravaack STAFFER" that was "CHARGED with Assault" a few months ago. That was wrongfully stated and sent forward to the AP by two clowns at the BDD. That went around the world and all the clowns got was a written reprimand in their personnel files. They should be in the unemployment lines right now. Cravaack campaign should have taken the BDD for the ride of their life on that one. The BDD must really think they are making points with the AP. They should be put on the banned list by AP. On another note, FNB and myself were going to catch a plane to go skiing in Colorado this evening. We have one extra ticket and wondered if you wanted to go along. We'll be landing in New York City around 10 this evening and then taking a bus from there to the ski resort. LOL
Hey Rockfish and NanLee60
Rockfish, You should probably stick to your other job and then maybe someday you'll be able to retire and have some time to spend on here also, like myself. By the way, it's not always bad to be wrong. Sometimes a little crow in the diet is good for the system. Just back up and take another shot some other time. LOL (humor for the day for NanLee60).
Humor?
"Just back up and take another shot some other time. LOL (humor for the day for NanLee60)."
Humor, where? ;)
The story is about a very bad accident and you guys come in to be critics. It doesn't matter where it happened does it?
Just good to hear and know that he is improving.
Hey Purposed
We booked it through Rockfish International.
Rock
So you know that Fair comments on every piece, how is that?
You must have to read every piece to know that.
In the world of what really matters --- that is not one of the things.
Welcome aboard. It is possible to work and not have a
8-5 day. There are other hours to work and if one works for himself, it is even easier to comment.
points??
Is there some contest about getting points, Charlie? Geez! We all need to take Rock Fish's example and get a life.
Nan
The humor was in the eat crow comment. However, as you state, this was a very sad situation and I did get off the subject. This family was devastated and I pray for the recovery of the driver. As for those that didn't survive, I'm sure they are being taken care of. The powers above will see to that. Prayers to all involved in this terrible accident.
Shadrack
No contest about getting points however it is a good indicator of how much you use this site and knowing that there are people like you out here, it would be a good thing to break yourself in with caution.
Gives
Gives charlie m a high 5 and a "all's well."
Now behave yerself (lol)
Shame on you guys
I seriously think BDD needs to shut down the comments function on some of their articles, out of respect for the subject matter. Honestly, this article involves the death of two precious little ones and their mother and a father who lived to have to deal with the pain and is followed by petty bickering and verbal oneupmanship? Shame on all of you. Maybe it is because they weren't from around here? No one was nitpicking and namecalling following the articles reporting a similar recent tragedy of a more local nature.
