Foundation seeks host sites for AmeriCorps VISTA members
LITTLE FALLS — The Initiative Foundation is seeking organizations to host full-time, year-long Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) members engaged in projects to fight poverty.
In partnership with the AmeriCorps VISTA program, the Initiative Foundation will place 20 full-time VISTA members in organizations serving Benton, Cass, Crow Wing, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Wadena or Wright counties.
Eligible host sites include 501(c) nonprofit organizations involved in anti-poverty work and schools and government agencies.
Host site applications are due by Jan. 31 and sites will be selected based on ability to support and direct a VISTA member, expected impact of the project, and alignment with these 2013-2014 priority focus areas:
• Economic Stability (food, housing, financial literacy).
• Economic Opportunity (education and employment).
• Economic Recovery (community-based workforce development).
• Military veterans and their families.
Host sites recruit, interview and select their own VISTA members from a pool of local and national candidates by June. Selected VISTAs start service in August and receive training, medical coverage and a monthly living allowance to help enable them to serve.
