Posted: January 2, 2013 - 10:10pm

Char Kinzer, Crow Wing Power public relations manager, will present a program to the League of Women Voters of the Brainerd Lakes Area at the Brainerd Public Library at noon on Jan. 10. She will speaking on the mining of manganese from a site near Emily.

Crow Wing Power is in the process of obtaining approval for the bore-hole process, which uses existing groundwater. According to the plans if all the environmental tests return positive, it would take five years to extract the manganese from the site. The manganese deposit near Emily is the largest in North America and recently had been pursued by foreign interests. The program is open to the public.
