Portable tree stands need to be removed from county managed public land

Posted: December 28, 2012 - 12:59am

Crow Wing County Land Services is reminding hunters that all portable tree stands or free standing stands must be removed from county managed public lands on Jan. 1.

The Crow Wing County hunting stand ordinance states portable tree stands must be removed no later than one day following the close of Minnesota’s big game hunting season, which ends on Dec. 31. Permanent hunting stands are also prohibited by the ordinance.

Portable tree stands or portable free standing stands not removed from county managed public lands are considered abandoned personal property and will be removed pursuant to state law and the Crow Wing County hunting stand ordinance.

“The county ordinance regulates the use of hunting stands on county managed public lands. The purpose of the ordinance is to minimize damage to trees, promote both public safety and equitable public use of the public land,” said Kirk Titus, Land Services supervisor, in a news release. “Individuals who do not remove their stands are essentially making a claim or taking ownership for future use of a particular piece of county land. This is a violation of the ordinance.”

For more information, contact Crow Wing County Land Services at 824-1115 or visit the Crow Wing County website at http://www.co.crow-wing.mn.us/DocumentCenter/Home/View/1191.

The county manages 105,000 acres of forest land for timber production and diverse recreational opportunities for multiple users. The sale of timber at public auctions during the year funds the county’s management of these lands, while providing revenues to local communities. The county reported the forest lands are managed to strict environmental standards established by both the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Forest Stewardship Council certification standards.

I know of 3-4 that were on

I know of 3-4 that were on county land last spring. Two of them were right next to a logging trail.

That's why MN should adopt Michigan's law.

Where you must buy a tag for your deerstand just like you do for a fishhouse.

DNR and more revenue

I don't think so. They already abuse the revenue they do have. If they need more revenue, they can fire the thousands of greenies and thieves they do have and start over by working for and supporting the sportsman. BTW-I understand there is an ethics investigation going on as we speak, into activities and individuals in the Brainerd DNR office. Throw the bums in jail and take their pensions away.

Purposed

Could very well be. Details are slow to come in. I believe I know who is involved. It involves misuse of power, fellow employees and state equipment, including airplanes, for personal financial gain. It also involves citizen/landowner abuse. I think outdoor heritage funds are also involved. This is only a good guess. Like I said, details are slow coming in. For some reason, it's being kept quiet. Kind of like most things involving the DNR. Don't quote me but I believe it is being conducted above the heads in the DNR so it should hopefully be fair and honest. Hopefully someone will get his/her walking papers and no pension, and conviction requiring restitution . If my guess is correct, at least one person is due to retire soon. As many of you will agree, the DNR is the most corrupt unit of the state. It's needed overhaul for quite a few years now. They lost touch with the citizens several year ago. They operate under an "up your backside" attitude when it comes to dealing with the citizens. More as it becomes available. It's taken me several months to get this much info.

Happy new year to all and remember, smokey has been out like flies on stink in unmarked cars. My neighbor got stopped twice yesteray just on her way home from work.

"For some reason, it's being kept quiet. "

No charlie, it's just that one of those in charge fell and suffered a concussion. I'm sure details will come out in short order.

Hey Tripwire

Sounds like a Hillary Clinton deal. Sorry, I fell and got a concussion. I'll probably be ready in a few weeks after we have time to create a coverup. Well trip, FYI, it's been going on for quite a while now and no one has even mentioned it. What are they hiding.
