Gas prices were noted at $2.99 a gallon in several locations in the Brainerd lakes area on Thursday.

Scary

Do ya have to spend $55.00 first?? To become a member? I can buy alot of gas with 55 bucks at 4 cents a gallon.

@OFB

If you buy the $55 just for gas, then yep, you're right you'd have to buy 1300+ gallons of gas to make up the difference. Heck, if you shop at Fleet you can get the 4 cent coupons and make up the difference. However, if you buy the membership and take advantage of cheaper (almost everything grocery wise) then it doesn't take long. Milk that's 50 cents at a minimum cheaper, bread, bulk goods, etc. We more than make up our membership cost in the discounted prices on Costco's goods. It allows me to not shop Wal-Mart for low prices.

Milk...

Milk at Costco is about $1.00/gal cheaper. If you bought only one gallon of milk per week, it would (approximately) pay for the Standard Costco membership.

Gas is only a little cheaper at Costco, but I think it keeps the rest of the Brainerd Gasoline Cartel a bit more honest with their prices.

We have the Costco Executive Membership ($110.00), which pays 2% back on all purchases, so if we buy about $3000.00 per year, the 2% will pay the difference between the Standard and Executive memberships.

Costco pays it's employees well, and provides benefits, and is STILL profitable!!! If Costco can do it, so can walmart!!!!!

We REALLY like Costco! Can you tell?

Gas prices.....

Every time gas prices go up, we see a couple letters written to the BDD claiming some kind of conspiracy. Either the greedy oil companies are fixing prices or local stations are colluding to drive prices up.

Now that they're dropping, I assume we can thank the oil companies for deliberately foregoing massive profits. Maybe they're feeling especially festive this year. I say, let's write Dick Cheney a letter and thank him since he alone determines world oil prices.

On the other hand, maybe they should just pump free gas since the world is ending tomorrow.

The world is ending tomorrow.

"On the other hand, maybe they should just pump free gas since the world is ending tomorrow."

I don't expect them to "pump free gas", but it might be wise to not fill the tank....just in case! Coupla gallons ought to get everyone by until the end. ;-)

It's kind of sad that we get so excited about gas dropping

below $3! I remember my dad screaming about the high cost of gas when it went from .289 cents a gallon to .319 cents a gallon! My oh my, have times changed.

Rumor is that Obama is using all his powers to delay it until January when the liberals take over... So fill up and enjoy before we all are sent to the stockyards in Camp Ripley.

"Trip cant remember if I told ya. 110 little toes due early May." You've lost me on that one. Might be the rum and eggnog though.

As far as grandchildren and candy, that's just plain cruel.........but I love it.

Also, I wouldn't too much about the world ending. Rumor has it, they have already printed the new calendars.

Fill er up

I know someone is particular about where the decimal point was placed. I looked up "Historical gas prices" for personal interest.
1919 - 0.25/gal. that is 25 cents a gal.
1920 - 0.30
1921 - 0.26
price seemed to be consistant untill the 1960's
