Crow Wing County Deputy Bryan Vieths, a veteran officer, was injured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Brainerd.
Sheriff Todd Dahl said Vieths was staying at the Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd overnight as a precaution and was expected to be released Friday.
Dahl said he believed all the drivers in the crash suffered an injury — one requiring stitches, another bruised ribs. An infant in the back of the passenger car was not reported injured.
The crash occurred about 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of Laurel and Southwest Fourth streets. The squad car, a passenger vehicle and a Holden Electric truck were involved.
The Brainerd Fire Department extricated Vieths from the squad car. He was taken to the hospital by North Ambulance.
Information on how the crash happened was not available Thursday, but Dahl said the Minnesota State Patrol would be writing up the crash report.

I drove upon the accident
I drove upon the accident only seconds after the impact. My initial reaction by observing where other cars ended up (not shown in photo) was that this was not a run-of-the-mill accident. The squad car must have been traveling at a high rate of speed to push the truck onto the curb.
Glad he is ok.

I don't know what happened in this case but a cop in Baxter nearly pulled out in front of me yesterday by forest view. He had to come to a sliding stop right at the center line. Our police officers need to set better examples. I have a feeling in this case though that the driver passed out or something

Really keep their mouths shut until they know what happened. The poor guy had a medical situation and could not control what happened. We should be praying he is ok and for his recovery, not assuming he did something wrong to make this happen. You know what they say about assuming....

roundabouts
The roundabouts are great, but certain drivers still believe its a racetrack between roundabouts. It appears that they don't know there is a posted speed limit at the roundabout and also on the rest of the road.

the people who decided on putting thos stupid things in should be fired, they may be ok in a perfect world but where the rest of us live they suck, even when people know how to navigate them they are a pain, but the problem is people dont know how and are too distracted to learn, there are many drivers out there who cant navigate a straight line much less anything else, now that my rant ill sit back and relax
