Red Lake gets over $21M in loans for development

Posted: December 16, 2012 - 4:26pm

BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) — The Red Lake Band of Ojibwe in northern Minnesota is getting more than $21 million in federal development loans.

Minnesota Public Radio News reports (http://bit.ly/R0ZG1x ) the tribe will use some of the money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Program to build a 42,000-square-foot tribal college.

The new building will have more classroom space than the older facility, and will have room for technology equipment.

USDA spokesman Adam Czech says the tribe also plans to build a tribal government center. The older government buildings have mold and other health issues.

The projects are expected to create jobs on the reservation. The tribe will repay the low-interest loans over 40 years.

More money down the drain

This is supposedly a loan to be paid back in 40 years.
Must have been a load of money sitting around just waiting
for this opportunity. They apparently don't know that money
should have been used to pay down debt.

Along those lines, have you seen how many extra goodies
they put into the "Sandy Fund"? About 8-10 extra grants
going out, I just remember one to Alaska. They wonder why
the TEA party started.
It should be changed to "spent enough already" ...

21 million

Just another $21,000,000 Washington D.C. may as well have thrown into the wind. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm sure someone will) but I believe tribal members for the most part get a free ride at colleges anyway so why build them a private one?

The tribe operates three casino operations.

River Road Casino, Lake of the Woods Bingo and Casino, Seven Clans Casinos.
Funny how they are a "Soverign" nation that always seems to have their hand out. With alll the money they generate, as well as other Indian casinos, it is a wonder they don't help each other out. Or is greed and selfishness only a European trait!

their dime

Let them study their own cirriculum on their dime --- not mine. They are the ones who want to be their own Soverign Nation.

So....

I am forced to give my money to them, and yet not allowed to fish on "their" Red Lake? Unreal. If they want t be a sovereign nation, fine. But don't make me pay for it.
