WADENA — Wadena Police Chief Bruce Uselman Tuesday said his department reviewed information regarding the Wadena-Deer Creek School District teacher who was suspended for not complying with the district’s acceptable use policy for technology and found nothing to indicate that there was any criminal intent in the incident.
Uselman said his department did not conduct an investigation but reviewed information that was gathered by parents of students who had apparently seen an inappropriate photo on an iPad. According to the police chief a student stumbled across an iPad in a classroom setting, thinking it belonged to another student.
The health and physical education teacher, Tom VanErp, was given an unpaid suspension equal to 10 work days, according to the school district. Wadena-Deer Creek School Board Chair Steve Techam said a forensics firm was unable to retrieve the photo in question.

So the student reported seeing the picture, the teacher was suspended, the crime lab never found the picture, but there was no crimanal intent! The teacher is suppose to go on teaching like this never happend!
Of course not.
No one is suggesting that there was criminal intent. Just acting stupidly. If this is what it sounds like, a public school teacher who puts a picture of himself leaving the shower on a school district computer and then leaves it in a place where his charges can access it. But, we'll wait to see what the whole story is....if it ever comes out (Ahem, BDD).
I am confused!
tripwire3, I am confused by the whole story, did the teacher or the school act stupidly? Or am I, for trying to figure this mess out? I confess I am confused! My age is showing! I admit to being brought up with morals and respect for myself and others, who would post a picture like that, where a student or his own(the teachers) mother might see! Iknow people do this daily but they must not respect themself at all!!

Sounds like both parties have handled this poorly, though I will admit I don't know many, if not most, of the details.
I will give the teacher the benefit of the doubt. I put an article out on CraigsList a while back and so far, I have received about ten e-mails (complete with pics) from scantily clad young ladies who want to make my acquaintance. So, I suppose all things are possible but it still doesn't pass the smell test.
I also find it hard to believe that a technology company couldn't retrieve the photo from the iPad.

Just for clarification: I wasn't referring to your comments. I was thinking about the police chief's remarks. So, no, I don't think you are acting stupidly.

Thanks, but for the record I was trying to make light of my own obsession of this story. Don't get me wrong I think that the body is beautiful I grew up in the 70's hot pants halter tops, but I think 1/2 the thrill of the present is the package! I just don't understand why someone would put a picture on the internet that could come back to bite you in the butt..
At least ya said young
Trip so we know it was not Nan.LOL
I think she is still mad at me. Wonder why ehh?
