With the end of the year fast approaching, the Brainerd School Board Long Range Planning Committee met Tuesday afternoon to take a look at ongoing, completed and future goals for the Brainerd School District.
“We (the committee) have a few specific ongoing goals and some that we feel we have completed,” said Tom Haglin, committee chairman. “And we have some potential new ones that we want to document and are looking to achieve over the course of the year.”
The committee reported that five goals have been completed this year, including online behavior tool to track data for all students, student behavior expectations, technology audit for years 2011-14 and a plan to operate extracurriculars without Warrior Way. Originally listed as completed but something committee members agreed could be moved to ongoing so it doesn’t sit idle was the 10-year capitol projects for facility and technology needs in the district.
Future draft goals that the committee will recommend for approval to the board during its meeting on Monday were the creation of a new Warrior mascot and the review and implementation of the best practice in grading of student work.
The committee decided to table two of the future goals, improvement of existing facilities and an evaluation key of investments in the district, with committee members unanimously agreeing that more information and a change of wording needed to be done to move ahead.
