AITKIN — Aitkin County Habitat for Humanity is looking for new board members now that Susan Clark Harris and Pastor Robert Munneke, both of Aitkin, have completed their service on the board of directors. They fulfilled their term limits and are stepping down from the board of directors, while continuing to volunteer on committees.
Meetings are once a month, on Monday mornings, and many board members also do additional volunteer work, although that is not required. Habitat is especially interested in those who have knowledge in the construction trades, legal issues, finance, real estate, religion and family services. We are also looking for younger adults.
Volunteers for the 2013 construction project in Aitkin are needed, as well those who can cook or babysit for volunteers. Contact Aitkin County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 281, Aitkin MN, 56431 or call 218-927-5656 or email email@example.com. Or stop in at the office in downtown Aitkin in the Morris and Morris building.
Aitkin County Habitat for Humanity has kicked off its fundraising for the next new home in Aitkin with a substantial donation from the Greater Lakes Association of Realtors. The proceeds from the Hammerin’ the Highway motorcycle ride held in September in Aitkin was split among four Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
In addition, Ann Schwartz, executive director of the Aitkin Habitat for Humanity reported response has been great to a fundraising appeal letter sent out in November. There is still time to get tax-deductible donations in until the end of the year.
The Family Selection Committee is busy interviewing families and will select a family for the new Aitkin home by Feb. 1, 2013.
