TAOPI, Minn. (AP) — A sister and brother will continue to run the tiny southern Minnesota town of Taopi (tay-OH'-pee) even though they didn't much want the jobs anymore.
Jim Kiefer was mayor of Taopi from 1984 to 2008. Mary Huntley was city clerk from 1976 to 2008. That year, the Post-Bulletin reports they decided to switch jobs and were both elected in the town of 40 registered voters near the Iowa border (http://bit.ly/XV2h1g ).
This year Kiefer and Huntley decided to step down. But no one else signed up, so voters reelected both by write-in. Newcomer Eric Boe was also elected to the city council by write-in votes.
The mayor and council earn $25 per quarterly meeting. The clerk earns a $100 annual salary, though in 2013 that's getting bumped to a whopping $600.

The town used to really stink. They had a pea silage stack next to town.
So He gets re elected and gets
a big boost in His salary. Wonder what the rest of the story is.
No one knows anything about
him and where he came from or where he was born. He has no school records and his pals had illegal farm workers vote for him so he'll probably be "Mayor for Life". They do know he's a liberal DFLer.
Another
Another little town north of Bemidji is the same way.
Most of the town is run by one family. Population in 2010 was 201.
Used to be a big busy logging town, jail, 2 grocery stores, 6 bars, post office. Now it has 2 bars, resorts, and a lumber yard .
LOL F&B
Maybe there the only ones that can handle the smell. I guess I cant say the silage stack is still there. Its been 25-30 yrs since I've been there.
Nan 201 people. Thats only 70 or so less than where I grew up & no it was not by Taopi.
