Principal says spandex becoming a distraction

Posted: November 13, 2012 - 10:49am

MINNETONKA, Minn. (AP) — Minnetonka High School's principal says skin-tight spandex leggings worn by female students are becoming a distraction.

Principal Dave Adney has emailed parents urging them to talk to their children about the fashion trend and the need to "keep things covered up."

Students once paired long tops with the leggings, but Adney says shirts are getting shorter and showing a lot more bottom.

Some students say the leggings are no worse than tight-fitting jeans. But, Adney tells KMSP-TV (http://tinyurl.com/bxbxpbj ) denim doesn't provide the definition that leggings and spandex do.

Adney says he doesn't want to ban the leggings, but just wants students to use more discretion.

Then they shouldn't allow the soon-to-retire, male teachers to wear it.

The baggy pants with uncovered boxer shorts look on guys

Is worse. Do they duct tape them on so they don't fall down?

And also-

It's the parent's fault that they let their kids leave the house dressed like little tramps. Uneducated children beget uneducated children.

Guess what a girl who dresses like she is eye candy for all of the boys gets?

Pregnant.

Baggy pants

Haven't you seen the teen fad where the boys pants hang below their shorts and look like gravity couldn't hold them up?

Inconceivable, You're wrong

It's not the parents fault. Every time a parent disciplines a child, there is a teacher hiding around every corner waiting to turn them into the law. I'm tired of hearing "It's the childrens fault"--"It's the parents fault." Now that that blame has been proven unfounded, how about the real answer "IT'S THE TEACHERS FAULT". If teachers had to live by a dress code, half of them would get fired. Teach by example and the students will follow. It was you lazy teachers that introduced social media into schools so now you fix it. Remember, "A College Degree Does Not A Teacher Make". Only a union keeps them all around. Now send this to Tommy TV Dooher.

Charlie-

It's the teacher's fault that the parents let them leave the house dressed inappropriately? It's the teachers' fault that they own that type of clothing (which was probably bought by the parent in the first place)?

Unless that teacher is the child's parent, I don't see how an instructor has any bearing on what the child is dressed like when they leave home.

Proper education on morality and scruples falls first on the parents' shoulders.

How about, "If you wear that to school again, I'll burn it because it is too form-fitting and makes you look cheap." That seems like a good solution.

did a bad teacher hurt your feelings? You have a lot of resentment towards teachers. Is there anyone in the world you don't hate?

Inconceivable/Wrong Again

Teachers have tied parents hands long ago. Parents can't teach morals at home because only teachers can teach anything. Are you crazy, making a threat like burning their clothes would have more teachers and law down your throat than you could shake a stick at. It is so bad today that teachers have even pushed ECFE down the throats so they can start brainwashing the kids at birth. Five years of living at home and learning discipline and morals from your parents was just to much for the teachers. Todays discipline and morals problems fall directly with the teachers. No one else. It's written on the wall. "A College Degree Does Not A Teacher Make." A teachers union protects them from being fired for incompetency. Approximately 50%of them. While I can't speak for others, i'll place odds that over 80% of the people that are reading this, agree with me and are probably saying, "It's about time somebody says something to the teachers. The other 20% are teachers waiting to pounce on me.

Charlie

Tell that to the guy who shot his daughter's laptop and made a YouTube video about it. He was praised by parents all around the globe for standing up to his daughter.

Tough love is not governed my the Education Dept.

It is a parent's job to teach their children right from wrong, and anyone that doesn't and uses the teachers as the excuse is shirking their duties and wrongfully utilizing the teachers as scapegoats for their own ineffectiveness.

I don't agree with you, and I will leave it at that.

No, a bad teacher did not hurt my feelings. A whole bunch of bad teachers have hurt todays society. Yes, I have a lot of resentment toward a lot of teachers. My wife is a non-union college professor and she has to re-teach the crap that comes out of todays union-taught high schools. My two brothers-in-law also taught. One taught college and wrote college textbooks and the other was a high school assistant principle who couldn't wait to retire. Also, Motley, I love everybody. Just some more than others. Any other stupid questions. May God Bless You.

Charlie's statements

I agree with Charlie in the fact that education now days is being messed up by our teachers, but I do not agree that it's the teachers fault for how the kids dress.

When does self responsibility become part of the equation?

Parent's aren't teaching their kids now days because the baby boomer era is dying and the teens having kids have taken over. This means that kids are teaching kids and the kids aren't ready for the responsibilities of having a kid. You can blame the media for this as they push teen birth by allowing teens on TV to make them oh so famous for having a kid. It's all a show and a way to get attention because the parents aren't giving their kids the proper attention now days, they just put them in front of the TV or gaming device. College aged kids want to still live the college lifestyle so they push their kids off onto the grandparents so they can still go live that lifestyle. I personally don't have an issue with them living the lifestyle but when you choose to have a kid you choose to give up your time to raise YOUR kid properly. A kid bouncing back and forth between people at a young age is damaging to them as they don't build a solid bound between the parents but are taught to share many different people.

The media and government are the number 1 threats to our society and the brain washing that takes place. Ever since the government took over the education system with "No Child Left Behind" we have seen a large drop of the education that the people are receiving now days. They are still teaching that Thanksgiving is a day to be praised, um no we raped and slaughtered innocent people that day. We can't just wipe away the past by making up our own future, we learn from our past and develop a better future. This means we don't hide the truth from our kids. The media is big into brain washing as it only sells sex, sex is one of the worst addictions in this world if not the worst. More people have sex more so than drugs or alcohol, I'm not saying sex is a bad thing but it needs to be kept in moderation. Commercials are sex related, Disney has kids dressed in skimpy clothes, shows that are on during the day have sexual related themes. When everything is focused on sex than you only see sex.

In the end parents, media, government, and the kids themselves are responsible for the outcome of the kids dressing the way they do, anyone who says the government isn't involved is blind. They have a big portion of money into the media system and can tell them what to put on or off the air. Fox News, CNN, CNBC and many others are great examples as they are run by corporate america. Parents need to do a better job of teaching their kids and not relying on others to do it.

It is ok to be naive but in this world of technology and information it's not ok to be stupid.

Our education system is dumbing down our society and we the people are just saying it's ok and dealing with it. When will the people stand up against our country going backwards? If you want to see change than you have to make the change yourself not just wait for someone else to do it.

Dvranish Really?

The state has more morals now than it ever has. It's ok that you see people as an animal but the state notices people as being a human being. We all go through the same life so why should others be limited in what they want to do with THEIR LIFE not yours. Equality should be reached which means segregation from closed minded people like you have to stop voicing your prejudice opinion. The state voted for acknowledgment not that people may marry, that is still illegal in MN. Love how most people don't even know what was being passed, just a biased opinion being passed around among the people. Research and the learn the truth not what you are taught.

Charlie you are ........... wrong!

When the heck did teachers all of a sudden control parenting? If anything it is parents that have hamstrung teachers on discipline. Remember the ruler and hand? It used to be that a parent was on the side of authority (teacher/principle) if their precious little angel was doing something wrong. Now parents jump down their throat if a teacher dares say something against their sweet little innocent kids. Get real!

Urban legend used to always say how it was namby pamby liberalism that made teachers coddle out of control kids and let them get away with anything!

Who's butt did you kiss to get me booted off? You were also booted off and are now back on - how did that happen? You are all over the internet - it wasn't that hard to put together a colourful dossier on you. You have quite the past. Chill out dude. Don't get po'ed just because one can google your name and come up with your past - all from PUBLIC sources i.e. newspaper and court records (not to mention your posts on these forums). If you don't like it than don't get all nuts over someone filming a candidate.

My dad and his brother were WW II vets (and my brother is in Iraq and Afgahnistan) and both took advantage of vets benefits including the VA hospitals. I am not arguing whether or not we should provide this or that for our veterans, however it is on more thing from the gov't teat. Let's be honest here - disability, hospitals, vets homes etc. etc. all COST the taxpayers (atlas shrugged - you know the 47%)! I am just pointing this out, not saying we shouldn't do it, but lets be honest. I see you bashing others for being on the gov't teat but are on it yourself as a DAV - right?
