AITKIN — Aitkin Pet and Farm Supply is having its second annual pet costume contest from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 31. There will be refreshments for pets and their families and prizes for best dressed, best owner/pet combo and the funniest costume. All pets and children who show up in costume will receive a treat.

AITKIN — The Lois Club Luncheon will be 11:30 a.m. Oct. 30 at Blackrock Apts. in Aitkin. Bring a potluck dish to share. Wear a Halloween Costume (optional) and bring an item for the food shelf. Alpha Chapter No. 23 OES will meet Monday at the Masonic Hall. Meeting is at 7 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. It will be a baked potato buffet. Bring a topping for the potatoes. Judy and Gary Whiteman will speak on the balloon fiesta in New Mexico.

Legion’s Halloween party
NISSWA — The Nisswa American Legion’s annual children’s Halloween party will be from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Nisswa American Legion Post. All children 12 years of age and under are invited. There will be games to play and a treat will be served for all ghosts and goblins.
■ BACP to hold vigil
Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace (BACP) will hold a vigil to observe the 11th anniversary of the Afghan War on Oct. 28. The vigil begins at the entrance of Gregory Park at 1 p.m. Vigil participants will march from Gregory Park to the Armed Forces Recruiting Center, located on Washington Street, near the Westgate Mall. The vigil will last from 1-2:30 p.m. Signs are available for vigil participants.
The vigil will demand the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan and an end to the drone bombing campaigns in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. The vigil will call for peaceful resolutions to the dispute over Iran’s nuclear energy program and the Syrian Civil War.
After the vigil, an informal discussion will be held at the United Church of Christ (UCC) Adult Forum Room. The Adult Forum Room is located upstairs, near the church library. The UCC is located at 415 Juniper Street, near the southwest corner of Gregory Park. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
In the event of bad weather, the informal discussion in the Adult Forum Room will be held at 1 p.m.

BNSF Vets Association will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday for a breakfast meeting at the Northwind Grille.
