Taylor Stevenson of Baxter was chosen as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans (TOYM) by the Minnesota Jaycees. Stevenson is the DFL candidate for Senate District 10.
For more than 50 years, the TOYM event has been a program which the Minnesota Jaycees, in partnership with their local chapters, rewards young men and women who have shown dedicated service to their community, demonstrated outstanding leadership, or have achieved excellence in their field of work/study.
The ceremony and reception will be held Dec. 1, at the Doubletree by Hilton in Saint Louis Park. Reception will include a dinner and speeches from all honorees.
“This is a great honor, and I am very humbled to have been chosen,” Stevenson said in a statement. “I have been working very hard for this area, and to be in the company of these other great Minnesotans is an amazing feeling.”
Stevenson has been an active member of Building Bridges, Poverty Bound, Bridges of Hope, and the Minnesota Farmers Union. He also spearheaded the “Yes, Yes” campaign to help area public schools.

Add commentStevenson believes
I find it somewhat tragic that our society is willing to mock and cut down individuals who are attempting to add real value to society. I think we often forget that making money in the private sector is but one path to a successful life. As a young person who believes in a variety of dreams, I find it so frustrating to hear that the only way I can be successful is if I have a big paycheck. Stevenson is a man who doesn't apologize or make excuses for having dreams that are increasingly less appreciated in this society.
Stevensons Dreams
The only dreams that Stevenson has is that some day he will have enough money to buy that tattoo and earings for his nose that he has been wanting. Any other dreams he has had, can't be talked about on here. The last thing we need in St Paul is a dreamer representing us. St Paul is not about dreams, it's about reality. He also needs to talk his mommy into washing his clothes and dressing him a little more appropriate. If he wants to represent us, he needs to dress for the occasion. When he knocks on my door, he's no longer a school teacher. He's a candidate. And he needs to get a new mentor if he plans on going anywhere in politics. These are just a few of the many tips he needs to heed.
Add Real Value
If I didn't have to pay my own way in life I would have the time to "add real value" too.
Outstanding Young Minnesotan
Does an outstanding young Minnesotan walk on stage prior to a Public Television Debate and switch chairs with his opponent. Taylor Stevenson does. Does an outstanding young Minnesotan have the chamber of commerce radio debate time changed by one half hour so he can coach a football game. They won't do that in the legislature. Taylor Stevenson does. Does an outstanding young Minnesotan cry on command when he is at a luncheon with a group of senior ladies. I'll bet they will all vote for you now. Taylor Stevenson does. Not my idea of someone I want representing me in St. Paul.
I don't want him representing
I don't want him representing me in St. Paul or anywhere.
He is self-serving and should grow up before he can represent anyone but himself.
Oh, I forgot he will represent the teachers union. I'm still waiting to find out how you can be a teacher without a teaching degree.
If he had a goal in addition to being in politics that would help.
You shouldn't have a goal of spending your whole life in politics. That is not contributing, that is self-service.
Hey Tay
Have you registered with the selective service system yet. All you need is Name, SSN, and date of birth. If you have, what is your status code.
Tay's new book?
He could write a new "Dreams from my Father" book ...
My father would dream that I (Taylor) would grow up and leave the house. Lol
Still waiting to hear how
Still waiting to hear how FNB, Charlie M, Sadie, our anyone else tearing Taylor down makes the Brainerd Lakes Area a better place. My guess is they vote and b@t&h and moan on the online forum of the Dispatch.
HEY DUDE
Are you for real. Where did the Libs find you. What rock do you live under. You better go back in the house. It's going to get cold outside soon. Are you just another example of how the libs use/abuse people. I feel sorry for you-really and truly. Become a conservative and we will help you, not use you, to do our dirty work. You have touched my heart guy.
Hey Charlie
Your comment proves my point not only did you not list how you positively impact your community, but you chose to be negative and attack me (someone you do not know). It was my hope that maybe some of the more negative people who comment on here would be able to list how they serve their community. Instead we get more negativity. I thought maybe you all could at least put something positive down and then we could come together on common ground, something we all share, the Brainerd Lakes Area. And for the record I would not consider myself a liberal or a conservative. Neither appear to do little for this country. If there was an option to vote for non of the above I would pick that.
Furthermore
I doubt you would be so negative to my face (at least I would nope not).
Kudos to this fine young man
It is amazing the citizens of Brainerd on this forum can't appreciate this fine young man. I would like to see any of them in the classroom controlling a bunch of kindergarten students. Substitute teaching is one of most difficult jobs there is. And YES it is a job and he pays taxes. Why so cruel? He is an outstanding moral and respectable. young man. People who criticize this young man are ignorant and rude.
What is with the point system
Charlie M gets 1,649 points for what. He did not encourage or add anything thoughtful. He just criticized me! I was actually trying to find some common ground. I thought that no one could be so negative and would be able to contribute something in the form of positively impacting our community. I guess the dispatch is just slated towards conservatives who have little to say besides negative rude comments. It is time to get a real paper. I am still waiting for the Underground. Peace I'm out!
Got 30 points for that one.
Got 30 points for that one. Dispatch does not take criticism well!
Dude
You don't get points for whining. You get them for intellectual commentary. Maybe if you had something intelligent to post, you would get some points. You're the only one on here that has complained about points. I guess everyone else is wrong and you are right. You answered your own question. Besides, I don't write for points. I write for satisfaction and piece of mind. In fact, until you cried, I didn't even realize I had that many points. If you're trying to make points, you're in the wrong spot. You're not making many points on here.
Charlie M
I guess intellectual commentary is saying the same thing over again. You used the words points seven times in one paragraph. I was just asking a question. I thought intellectual commentary started from questions! Still waiting to hear what you do for Brainerd. Oh year, and if you are satisfied.
