BLUE EARTH, Minn. (AP) — A Blue Earth school bus driver has been charged with slapping a 6-year-old passenger who she says was unruly.
Seventy-two-year-old Jane Brooks is charged with fifth-degree assault.
Brooks says the 6-year-old was hitting a smaller child on the head with his book bag during an afternoon route Sept. 14.
She says the boy refused to move to another seat so she had to physically move him. The child then began kicking passengers across the aisle. Brooks says she radioed for help and school staff told her to move other children away from the boy.
The Fairmont Sentinel (http://tinyurl.com/9vlyznu ) reports as Brooks was doing so, the boy spit on the children in the seat behind him.
A criminal complaint says Brooks told the boy to stop spitting and when he did so again, she slapped him across the face.

Oh oh, she's had it! Granted the kid is being a little snot but you can't hit them anymore.
Years ago it was different. She's 72 and in her day they did spank or slap kids.
Time to retire Jane.
Nan
If you or I would have been that kid what would have our parents done to us??
the kid is lucky he only got
the kid is lucky he only got slapped ... corporal punishment is highly underrated!
Wrong Nan ...
... not time to retire the driver, time to change the law.
kick the kid off the bus
Whatever the age of the bus driver - what can they do with a kid like that? They wanted her to move all the other kids instead of the naughty kid. Time for the kid to be kicked off the bus. The drivers job should be to drive safely and on time. If you have to employ extra person to help - there is another expense.
If Obama is elected to a second term,,,,,,
no one will ever get to retire anymore. The retirement will be stolen to pay down the debt.
FnB ... don't be silly, Obama
FnB ... don't be silly, Obama has no intention of paying down the debt ....
Good for you Jane
Sounds like the little jerk got exactly what he deserved. Hopefully the prosecutor has some common sense and throws the complaint in the trash.
Hey
I'm not wrong Len, the law is wrong.I was getting at that she's gonna be gone, better to retire than get canned for it. Hey, I agree the little snot had it coming to him. But teachers, bus drivers and parents have to be so darned careful now.
If that had been me raising that kind of hell on a bus I would have some trouble sitting for a while, I'd been grounded, and would have had to write a mess of sentences.
I didn't ride bus, I walked to school up hill both ways. (jk) I cut across the field at Pequot School. In the elements. Now the bus picks them up.
I didn't get into trouble in school because I knew what I would face.
We know the brat had it coming. But the kid's parent was probably a big shot in town or at the school and got special treatment.
(F&B, DOS would you just ONCE stay on subject?)
Issue a medal
Driver should get a medal and a raise.
She should have "moved him away from the other children",
indeed, -- and right off of the bus. Then, get out your cell phone and call the trouble-maker's parents, instructing them where to pick him up, and telling them they'll be hearing from the other kids' parents who'll want an explanation as to why their kids arrived home late. The poor bus driver is in an absolutely no-win situation here. With very lame "support" from the school when she phoned in the incident, sounds like she did her best to defend both herself and the other kids by slapping some sense into the brat. I hope the school gets tons of calls in support of this driver. Isn't this part of relevant statute regarding any charges filed against her?
MN STATE STATUTE 609.06 AUTHORIZED USE OF FORCE
"Subdivision 1. When authorized. Except as otherwise provided in subdivision 2, reasonable force may be used upon or toward the person of another without the other's consent when the following circumstances exist or the actor reasonably believes them to exist:
(6) when used by a parent, guardian, teacher, or other lawful custodian of a child or pupil, in the exercise of lawful authority, to restrain or correct such child or pupil; or
(7) when used by a school employee or school bus driver, in the exercise of lawful authority, to restrain a child or pupil, or to prevent bodily harm or death to another"
There are times a kid should
There are times a kid should be punished. This was definitely one of them.
The biggest problem with parents today
Is the people who think they can easily identify the biggest problem with parents as long as it has nothing to do with them.
Oh FFS...
I remember watching old Erwin Thiesse (God rest his sweet gentle soul) whack the unruly miscreants on his bus..
He had hands the size of a bunch of bananas, and he'd wouldn't waste a second wrapping them around your shoulder to give you a good, firm shake if you needed an attitude adjustment..
Spanking is the wrong approach for this kid...
...a stun gun would be much more fitting.
Parents should get the disciplinary "slap"
We all know that most of this disrespectful behavior comes from how it is dealt or not dealt with at home. Make the parent ride the bus as a chaperone with the student otherwise they have to pay for a babysitter to ride with the student otherwise they are banned from riding.
