Cancer Center at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center receives $250,000 anonymous donation
An anonymous donor gave $250,000 to the Cancer Center at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
Essentia Health reported this gift will be used to advance cancer diagnostic and treatment capabilities in the Brainerd lakes area. Research and technology improvements are continually changing the current standard of care, the medical provider reported and these funds will ensure that resources exist to maintain and expand nationally recognized cancer care close to home.
“We appreciate the vision and compassion that this donor has shown for our community,” said Jani Wiebolt, president of Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center, in a news release. “We feel privileged and honored that we are entrusted with these resources.”
Most recently, the accredited Cancer Center at Essentia Health–St. Joseph’s Medical Center was selected as one of 106 cancer programs nation-wide for the 2011 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Contributing to the quality of care patients receive in Brainerd is the multi-disciplinary Cancer Committee that weekly reviews patient cases to ensure the optimum course of treatment is recommended. Patients also have an opportunity to participate in clinical trials offering access to cutting-edge treatments, medications and medical devices.
“The patients and families that we care for at the Cancer Center are incredible people,” said Dr. Laura Joque, oncologist at the Cancer Center at Essentia Health-St. Joseph Medical Center, adding the entire team feels privileged to work with them.
