Kindest Cut coming into area Oct. 10

Posted: September 30, 2012 - 7:01pm

Anyone visiting Heartland Animal Rescue Team (H.A.R.T) in Brainerd can see the amount of kittens, puppies and even bunnies that go unclaimed and unwanted. In an effort to prevent and reduce the number of unplanned litters born without a home, Kindest Cut is making a trip to H.A.R.T Oct. 10.

A mobile surgical unit that offers low cost spay and neuter services with a variety of Animal Humane Societies in the state, Kindest Cut gives the option to people in need to spay and neuter at a fraction of the cost, ranging from $40-$100 in comparison to the typical $120-$800 it can cost.

“It’s extremely important to have your animal spayed or neutered,” said Dr. Meghann Kruck, director and owner of Kindest Cut. “It’s sad to have homeless animals and a lot get turned into shelters, which is great, but that’s a considerable cost to the shelter and if they have too many animals, they are forced to euthanize a lot of the times.

“If we can help in preventing the amount of animals forced into a shelter, that’s great.”

Kruck said that the procedures begin with a pre-surgical exam, with surgeries beginning at 10 a.m. Bunnies go first, followed by dogs then cats, with the surgery taking no more than 20 minutes, usually less for younger animals.

A $10 deposit is required, which goes toward the surgical fee and appointments must be made ahead of time, as well as making sure owners qualify for the low cost procedure by visiting Kindest Cut at www.kindestcutmn.com or calling 763-489-7729.

“We recommend this be done at younger aged animals, but it’s just as important for the health of adult animals, too,” said Kruck. “We want to service the public and the community with this opportunity and if we can help eliminate the amount of animals and shelters, and the amount of tax money then being spent at the shelters, that’s why we’re here.”
