Bridges of Hope announces student bridge building contest
Bridges of Hope , a nonprofit organization in the Brainerd area that connects struggling families in need to the resources available to assist them, recently announced a “bridge building” awareness event in conjunction with Brainerd School District fifth-grade students and teachers.
Students at Forestview Middle School will build bridges from popsicle sticks in class from late September to early October as part of their curriculum. Area sponsors from construction and design firms will donate their time to assist students in designing and building their bridges.
A preliminary contest will narrow finalists to about 40 bridges, which will go on to compete for prizes in the final contest held on from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.
The community is welcome to attend the event to experience the contest and learn more about Bridges of Hope’s mission. The event kicks off the non-profit’s fall fundraising campaign, and free-will offerings are welcome.
Event sponsors for the Bridges of Hope contest include Anderson Brothers, Adventure Advertising, Brainerd Dispatch, Insty Prints, Nor-Son, Northway Construction, SEH, Teehive and Widseth-Smith-Nolting.
