Crow Wing Township to host public hearing on land use
On Oct. 11, Crow Wing Township will host a second public hearing to gather input on the revised land use ordinance and land use map.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Crow Wing Town Hall, 6930 Cuyuna Ave. The proposed ordinance reflects the revised Crow Wing County land use ordinance which was adopted in April 2011.
The proposed ordinance establishes performance standards as a regulatory approach to natural resources, of which the current 1970s era ordinance does not do. The ordinance creates new requirements for managing stormwater runoff on riparian lots based on impervious surface coverage, and establishes new septic maintenance and vegetative buffer requirements.
Besides the new shoreland regulations, the updated ordinance is much shorter and more user-friendly than the previous ordinance. Repetition, ambiguities and gaps that were in the previous ordinance have all been removed, Crow Wing Township reported.
A land use map which corresponds to the “land use districts” in the proposed ordinance will also be reviewed at the meeting. The proposed map reflects the existing “zoning map” closely.
