National Preparedness Month
The month of September is National Preparedness Month, founded after Sept. 11 in hopes that Americans would remember the significance of the day and use the time to think about being a little more prepared in our homes, for those who we may care for and also in our communities for an unexpected emergency.
Being prepared is a shared responsibility; it takes the entire community. This month during National Preparedness Month, the Cass County Emergency Management office is asking everyone to “Pledge to Prepare.” As individuals, businesses and as civic and community organizations, the county is asking citizens to commit to doing at least one of the following simple tasks:
• Learn about emergencies or hazards in your community and the proper response.
• Build an emergency kit.
• Make a communications plan.
• Get involved in preparedness in your community.
National organizations, such as the Lions Club, Salvation Army and Red Cross are ready to help people in time of need, as well as local organizations, including neighborhood watch programs and Cass County’s fire, Emergency Medical Service and First Responder groups.
