Crow Wing County announces business electronics collection
An electronics collection event for Crow Wing County businesses is scheduled between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 19 by the Crow Wing County Land Services Department at the Crow Wing County Landfill Site.
This is an opportunity for businesses to dispose of any old computers, printers, scanners, copy machines, tape drives, circuit boards, CD/DVD, telephones, motor generators and also save money on shipping costs. Electronics are prohibited from disposal in the landfill according to state law.
Upon arriving at the county landfill site, businesses must stop at the landfill office. The attendant will discuss the items to be disposed of and will direct businesses to the site where the collection will take place. County staff will off load the equipment, weigh it, and provide a bill of lading for proper record keeping. Asset Recovery will verify the equipment and invoice each company within two weeks of the drop-off, so no payment is required during the event. It is important to note that all loads coming to the county landfill must be covered to ensure roadways are not littered with debris.
Asset Recovery, a private firm, follows “federal military guidelines” when destroying all data. The cost to dispose of business electronics is 35 cents per pound and the county pays the transportation fees. Local units of government that fall under the Minnesota State Contract may pay less on certain items.
Local businesses that plan on participating in this event are encouraged to contact the solid waste office at 824-1290 so paperwork may be completed ahead of time to expedite the process.
