Ward lists information on STEM program
With the start of the school year right around the corner, State Rep. John Ward (DFL – Baxter) is informing constituents about an educational opportunity for area educators and businesses. The Minnesota High Tech Association and the Minnesota Department of Education have partnered to launch a new version of the popular getSTEM-mn (www.getstem-mn.com) web portal to connect STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) educators and area businesses. These classroom connections will help students get excited about and excel in science, technology, engineering and math.
“For Minnesota to be economically successful, we need a high-quality and technologically advanced workforce,” said Rep. Ward. “The Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce says in just six years, 70 percent of Minnesota jobs will require some level of college, and they forecasted 188,000 new jobs in STEM related fields.”
Minnesota educators may ask for assistance with STEM education classroom projects. Similarly, businesses can offer everything from STEM equipment to expertise. These connections are intended to augment ongoing classroom learning and demonstrate the real-life applications of geometry theorems, physics experiments and chemistry formulas.
