The NMRHA of Crosslake has received notification from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation of their support for the Trackers continued work on railroad safety. A grant of $500 was given to the Northern Trackers (members of the Crosslake NMRHA) to help underwrite their emphasis on railroad safety. The group is using materials from Operation Lifesaver, the national railroad safety program, to enhance their exhibits, offer educational programs and provide safety material to visitors.
Each young visitor receives Operation Lifesaver material to take home when visiting the NMRHA exhibits. An outdoor sign with railroad crossing safety tips will also be part of the club’s outdoor signage.
The club will also have Operation Lifesaver material available at their model train layout exhibit, which will be on display at the Crow Wing County Fair.
For information on club visiting hours and possible Operation Lifesaver presentations, please contact the Northern Minnesota Railroad Heritage Association at 218-692-1900; or Dennis Olson, president at 218-821-8357; or Mary Anne Bennett, interpretive chairperson at 612-408-9377.
