Frank Voigt, 79, of Pierz — one of the survivors who sought shelter on a Lake Superior beach Saturday after lightning struck and killed a 9-year-old Wisconsin boy after the boy and the other boaters were on a sailboat — was in good condition Monday at Essentia Health System in Duluth.
The Duluth hospital had no information on the condition of Mary Voigt, 78, of Pierz.
The Voigts were among the survivors aboard the sailboat.
Luke Voigt, 9, Iron River, Wis., was one of eight family members and friends on a sailboat who took refuge about 5:30 p.m. Saturday from a rapidly approaching thunderstorm near the Duluth-Superior Harbor, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported. Lighting struck before most could get off the boat, but one person was able to call 911. Luke was flown to a hospital in Duluth where he was pronounced dead. Four others were taken to Duluth hospitals with what authorities described as severe, but not life-threatening injures.
