No fire, funeral home conducting cremation

Brainerd firefighters responded to a call at 5:37 p.m. Tuesday at the old Photo Center, 7818 Excelsior Road, of flames coming from the building. It was reported that there was no fire, but that the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral and Cremation Center was conducting a cremation.

Firefighters also responded to what turned out to be a false alarm at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center.

uhmmmmm

Uhhhhhh, someone reports flames at the Photo Center, but come to find out it came from a cremation conducted at Halverson-Johnsons.
Ok, they must be right next door to each other and I didn't know that a cremation looked like flames.

Don't mean to sound dumb but help me out here folks.

Is it zoned for that?

Hmmm...not a good image of flames during a cremation.

New crematory

Yes, H-J bought Photo Shop for new crematory a while back. Adds flavors to the fresh foods at Super One. I read once a crematorium burned to the ground cuz the fire got too hot cuz the guy was too fat. There's a reason to lose weight - so you don't cause flames.

photo center

I believe it was the old photo center right next to super one. I saw the flames when I drove by also. and It was clearly visable... about 4 feet of flames coming out of the chimney.

Yikes

Not even a good image or thought. Imagine how family members feel knowing that it might be their family member that are causing those flames.
City might wanna consider doing something about that.

breathing.

No I did not wonder that. I did not know at the time that this is what was going on. I do not think anyone could have really known. you would think they would at least have to put something on the building (anything) to let people know that It is in fact a crematory... or even just a funeral home.

Are you guys for real?

I normally do not cut down the Brainerd Dispatch but I have to say something on this story... Did anyone at the Dispatch I take a minute to think about how this story must look to the poor family of the person being cremated? If that was my loved one I would be devastated reading that. And to the comments Shame on you. People are so insensitive to other peoples feelings I just know that If That were someone I loved and I read this thread I would be heartbroken that so many people found humor in my tragedy.. Editors please choose your stories more carefully

Report

They have to report or someone will write in or call and chew BD for NOT reporting. How did they know it wasn't a real fire but a routine cremation? Flames, smoke... FIRE!
I'm not being funny or a SA. How do you think family and friends would feel if they knew their loved one was seen and smelled by people driving by.
They are gone.
If the cremation was tragic then they shouldn't have chose it. What is tragic is the in- sensitiveness of H-J. I've never seen smoke or flames rolling out of Kleins Funeral Home and Cremation Society.

I understand that they have

I understand that they have to report it I guess what irked me most was the insensitivity of the people commenting and what I meant by a tragedy was the fact that they lost a loved one not that they were being cremated
