WDC band selected to play at conference
WADENA — The Wadena-Deer Creek Concert Band has been selected to perform for the Minnesota Music Educators Association state convention in February.
“This is such a great honor,” said Lisa Weniger, band director at WDC High School. “It’s wonderful because we will be able to showcase our band for Wadena and the surrounding area to music educators from around the state. And, it’s an excellent performance experience for our students.”
For the audition CD, Weniger selected an up-tempo, western-style piece called “Prairie Dances” and a ballad inspired by James Dean called “When Summer is Just Beginning.” Weniger sent the audition CD and performance application this past spring and was notified July 5 by Amy Rosium Foley, MMEA president-elect and clinic chair, that WDC had been accepted to perform.
Weniger is in the process of selecting five or six pieces of music for the 45-minute performance. She has notified her 65 concert-band students in grades 9-12 and parents with a letter outlining the performance.
Wadena-Deer Creek’s performance will be at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Minneapolis Convention Center.
