Dad angry over girl's Internet access at school

Posted: July 20, 2012 - 11:18am

ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) — The father of a Rochester Public Schools student is angry after learning his daughter has been meeting older men on the Internet while at school.

Greg Beckwith says his 17-year-old daughter has special needs and he supervises her Internet use while at home. When Beckwith noticed some suspicious behavior by his daughter with her phone, he found she had befriended 175 adults she met on Meetme.com with many interested in having sex with her. Beckwith says it all happened while she was at John Marshall school.

Rochester Superintendent Michael Munoz tells KTTC-TV (http://bit.ly/MwCHq8 ) the district uses a filter program to block inappropriate sites, but school officials weren't familiar with Meetme.com. Munoz says the site will be blocked and Beckwith's daughter will be supervised when using the Internet.
