Orientation set for Brainerd School Board candidates
In November 2012, three seats for four-year terms on the six-seat Brainerd School Board will be open. School board members whose terms will expire are Reed Campbell, Jim Hunt and Kent Montgomery. Campbell was first elected in 2003. Hunt was elected in 2009. Montgomery was appointed 1999, lost a bid for re-election in 2001 and then elected in 2003. The district administration will offer an optional orientation session from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on July 24 in the Washington Educational Services Building in room 217.
Brainerd community members who have an interest in candidacy for the Brainerd School Board are encouraged to attend and will be asked to adhere to the following agenda during orientation:
• Role and purpose of the school board.
• Code of conduct.
• Board structure including meetings, officers, committees and commitments.
• What to expect in your first year as a school board member.
• Resources for candidates.
Individuals interested in running for the school board may obtain important filing information in person at the Washington Educational Services Building at 804 Oak Street when they file. The filing period begins July 31 and ends Aug. 14.
