Baxter approves permits for Dondelinger automotive center

Posted: July 3, 2012 - 10:27pm

BAXTER — A host of approvals for the planned Dondelinger automotive center dominated the start of Baxter’s city council meeting Tuesday.

Two representatives for the Dondelinger project were the only people in attendance for the meeting leading to a brief public hearing. A judge is expected to act on the petition on July 5.

The petition is for annexation of 11.86 acres for the Roger Dondelinger property, which is the site of the proposed Dondelinger General Motors (GM) automotive dealership at the corner of Highway 371 and County Road 77.

The city approved a conditional-use permit for the Dondelinger planned unit development for a plan with three commercial buildings for the auto dealership, one for the GM facility, one for the Hyundai building and an outline for a future third building for the auto body repair facility.

In other business, the council:

Heard preparations are well in hand for the Fourth of July, with mowing done, spraying for mosquitoes and poison ivy completed and plans for traffic control.

“I think we’re set,” Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted said.

Baxter, please make sure you don't miss

any trees. You might accidentally leave one standing up and alive!

progress?

I know, I know, it's "progress" and maybe a good economic sign but...am I the only one who is very saddened by the loss of a beautiful stand of mature trees, sacrificed for the moving of a business?? As I drove by the clear-cut corner of 371 and Pine Beach Road, the Joni Mitchell song with the phrase "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot" came to mind.

Trees

There are plenty of trees around, and I am sure they will plant more when the project is complete. Do you people just come on here to complain?
