Brainerd Legion meeting

The Post Executive Committee meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Brainerd Legion.

Brainerd Elks Lodge breakfast

Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615 will serve breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at 215 South Ninth St., Brainerd. Order from the menu. All proceeds go to support Elks programs.

Backus Legion Auxiliary monthly breakfast

BACKUS — The Backus American Legion Auxiliary’s monthly breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. July 8. Cost: $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Proceeds go toward Auxiliary, veterans, active duty troop and community programs. The public is welcome at the clubrooms at Highways 371 and 87 W.

Backus Legion installs officers

BACKUS — The Backus American Legion and Auxiliary recently installed its officers for the 2012-2013 year. The installation took place at a joint meeting at the Legion’s clubrooms in Backus June 25 following election of the officers in May. Don Smith, Pine River, 6th Legion District chaplain and former district commander, installed the Legion officers and Minnesota state Department Auxiliary 2nd Vice President Shirley Frederick of Hackensack installed Auxiliary officers.

Newly installed Backus American Legion Auxiliary Officers for the 2012-2013 year are Carol Dickey, sergeant-at-arms; Lynne Gagnon, chaplain and executive committee member; Mel Taylor, president; Barb Frederick, executive committee; Judy Johnston, standing in for treasurer LaRene Aker; Kathy Bruno, secretary; Sue Wolf, standing in for 2nd vice president Joyce Smith; installing officer Shirley Frederick, Hackensack, Minnesota state Department 2nd vice president; and Jan Nelson, 1st vice president; and Linda Barchus, executive committee. Backus American Legion officers installed include William Taylor, commander; Wayne Pryor, chaplain; Eugene Gagnon, 1st vice commander; Gary Dawson, 2nd vice commander; Rod Aker, finance officer; Bob Johnston, standing in for Sergeant-at-arms Mike Bannister; Don Van Vorst, adjutant; and installing officer Don Smith, Pine River, 6th District Legion chaplain and former district commander; and executive committee members at large, Paul Kunde, Larry Kostka and Fred Keller.

Minnesota Lyme Disease Association of the Brainerd lakes area

The Minnesota Lyme Disease Association will meet at 6 p.m. July 12 at the Trailside Center at the Baptist Church of Pequot Lakes.

The topic will be about you. Bring a list of medications you take and a list of symptoms you have or had to compare different medications along with the vast array of symptoms.

Wreaths for the Fallen meeting

The Wreaths for the Fallen meeting will be 6:30 p.m. July 10 at the VFW Post No. 1112, 1210 Third Ave. NE, Little Falls.

Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace (BACP)

Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace (BACP) is marching in the Fourth of July parade on Wednesday. Due to road work in Brainerd, the Fourth of July parade will take place in Baxter. The parade begins at 4 p.m. Parade participants will organize along Golf Course Drive.

The parade will go from Golf Course Drive to Excelsior Road N. to Cypress Drive to Clearwater Road N. before finishing at Golf Course Drive.

As in 2010, the BACP unit will include Pastori the puppet.

Signs and posters will be available for parade participants.

The BACP website, www.brainerdpeace.org, will have additional information about the parade route, parking, and the parade unit number.

Good Samaritan Society offers Healthy Living Seminars

Good Samaritan Society – Communities of Brainerd and Pine River invite the public to two upcoming Healthy Living Seminars.

Sun Safety: Protecting your Skin, featuring a presentation by Dermatology Professionals, at 4 p.m. July 10 at Good Samaritan Society-Woodland, 200 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd; and Making the Most of 10 Minutes with your Doctor, featuring a presentation by Essentia Health, at 3:30 p.m. July 12 at Good Samaritan Society – Woodland, 200 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd.

Brainerd VFW Friday dinner

There will be no senior dance on Wednesday. There will be a senior dance from 1-4 p.m. Friday at Deerwood with music by Country Ramblers.
