The Brainerd Fire Department would like to thank the Brainerd lakes area communities for their generous support during their annual Fill the Boot to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. $8,401.76 was raised during the 3-day fundraiser for local families affected by muscle disease.
Fill the Boot is a tradition that began in 1954. Since that humble beginning, firefighters’ boots across the country have overflowed with coins and cash totaling more than $500 million. The Brainerd Firefighters have raised almost $20,000 since 2011.
Firefighters are committed to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association “until the day neuromuscular diseases are eliminated.” Motorists who paused to toss a donation in the boot helped the Brainerd lakes area celebrate this 58-year-old tradition of help and hope.
