Guest cabin saved from fire

Posted: June 15, 2012 - 6:55pm

NISSWA — Nisswa firefighters saved a guest cabin from burning to the ground Thursday night at a residence on the 5500 block of Bucks Landing on Lake Hubert in Nisswa.

Nisswa Fire Chief Richard Geike said the fire started underneath a guest cabin and firefighters managed to keep the fire from burning the inside. Geike said that part of the exterior of the cabin was burned.

Geike said it appears that the fire started from an electrical malfunction, but the cause is still under investigation.

No one was injured and no other structures were threatened.

Geike said the homeowner is Thomas Mulrooney.

Pequot and Brainerd fire departments were called for mutual aid. Geike said about 25 firefighters were on scene.

“It wasn’t a real big fire, but we called in other fire departments as a precaution.”

The fire was reported at 8:17 p.m. and firefighters cleared the scene at 9:30 p.m.
