Brainerd State Patrol District click it or ticket results

State Patrol Lt. Joe Dwyer reported that, “We are very proud of the affect that our troopers had on the motoring public during the recent Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement project in our Brainerd District.” Statistics show that troopers in the Brainerd State Patrol district alone stopped at least 596 motorists. Lt. Dwyer also said that, “Our extra patrols wrote at least 157 citations and at least 189 seat belt related warnings, which we believe went a long way in helping to educate the public about the importance of wearing seat belts”.

The Brainerd State Patrol office also reports that troopers wrote at least three child restraint citations and two warnings along with a host of other non-seat belt related activity including at least four custodial arrests. There were no reports of any unusual incidents or events during the seat belt campaign, which ran from May 21 – June 3. Compliance surveys in the Brainerd district before the project showed 88 percent seat belt usage, while post project surveys show a higher use rate of at least 94 percent.

Seat belt and child passenger safety enforcement and education is a component of the state’s core traffic safety initiative, Towards Zero Deaths (TZD). A primary vision of the TZD program is to create a safe driving culture in Minnesota in which motorists support a goal of zero road fatalities by practicing and promoting safe and smart driving behavior. TZD focuses on the application of four strategic areas to reduce crashes – education, enforcement, engineering and emergency trauma response.

Very proud indeed

It seems like it was less than 20 years ago that our elected lawmakers assured us seatbelt laws would only be a secondary offense and would never come to this point.I sure am glad that we have officers who are very proud of destroying freedom in an unreal attempt to have ZERO traffic fatalities.Anyone who thinks zero traffic accidents is realistic should vote for the same politicians who vowed to eliminate poverty by 2020.Paul Koering was one. 596 people were stopped and "at least" 157 citations were written. To me that means "at least"400 people had their constitutional rights violated by proud people.Hitler promoted pride and Jesus told us it was a sin.

My condolences to 'fishinmusician'

It's not everyone who can find a way to put Jesus Christ and Hitler in the same sentence.

What's even more of a surprise is discovering that there are still people who don't wear seatbelts. Or worse...who don't insist that their family members and other passengers do the same.

Agrees with fishinmusician

I completely agree with fishinmusician and also wanted to note that I find it so amazing that the click it or ticket campaigns are still used as a shield that these officers hide behind to harass people for other things that they would not ordinarily have proabable cause to be looking at.

Is there any law

you don't run afowl of, eyolf? I do not believe that any one person on this earth can have as many incidents that you claim. You have to be dreaming these situations up just like a lot of preachers do.

seat belts don't

The seat belts don't prevent accidents, they prevent you from dying in the accident that can happen to anyone!
I was one of those that hated wearing seat belts. I could give you 20 reasons why I wouldn't wear them. Finally after being pestered, nagged and being told the truck wasn't moving until I put them on, I started wearing them.
After our accident I realized then that they do save lives. Yeah, I come out of the accident with a wrinkled blouse from wearing them, but I lived to iron the shirt!

Eyolf

May have a point. Some officers don't know that certain cars only require a lap belt, and those happen to be older cars. Any time I drive my Firebird it seems if I pass a cop they are trying to figure out if I am wearing a seatbelt at all. All it has is a lap belt, which can be hard to see. The rules are different for classic and modern cars. I only need one side mirror, only need lap belts etc. There are a ton of laws out there people don't even know about.

Now Police can Pull Anyone Over for No Excuse

It is interesting that in the past law enforcement had to have a reason or probable cause to pull you over. Then they could also check you for your seat belt. Now with the "click it or ticket" they can pull everyone over for no reason except to "check your seat belt" and look for whatever else they want even though you are doing nothing wrong. I think there are questionable law enforcement motives for this law. I think they should rename it law enforcement's "pick it, your ticket".

Seat belts do save lives,

Seat belts do save lives, however the Government should not be able to force me to protect myself. If I choose to live life on the edge, and not wear a seatbelt that is my choice and no one else should have a say in that.

While I agree in part that the government may be overstepping

boundaries, let's look at it this way: You don't want to wear a seatbelt, you get into an accident and are propelled through the window, where do you land? Hopefully not through the window of another car, possibly killing someone else who had their belt on!

seat belt law

Its just another excuse to pull you over. Up until now they had to make up a story about how you had a license plate light out (which just happens to come back on after being pulled over) or they thought they had seen you touch the white line. Step by step little by little we are all losing our basic freedoms-------------and very few people care. I still can't understand why Joe Smuck has to have a seat belt on while going to the grocery store but Joe Smucks 5 kids riding on a school bus with 50 other kids don't. Also if Joe Smuck get on a tour bus to go to the casino with 40 other white hairs they don't need seat belts either. The bus industry must be passing tons of money under the table to get that exemption.

I agree that this is troubling. Lets not forget that it goes to both parties - Bush II actually suspended Habeas Corpus to so called 'enemy combatents' if you recall.
