Three area residents have been awarded scholarships for college from Wadena Area College Foundation (WACF). Nick Kleindl and Jill Maciejny from Brainerd and Lynnie Loucks from Pillager have each been selected to receive a scholarship for the 2012 fall semester at Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State) in Wadena. Kleindl has been awarded an Otter Tail Power Scholarship and is pursuing a degree in electrical lineworker technology. Maciejny has been awarded a Lake Region Electric Scholarship and is pursuing a degree in nursing. Loucks has been awarded a cosmetology program scholarship and is pursuing a degree in cosmetology. These scholarship dollars are designated for use towards tuition and books.
A total of $12,191 in scholarships will be distributed this fall to 14 students attending M State in Wadena and Baudette by WACF. Scholarships recipients are selected by a volunteer committee made up of foundation board members, and M State faculty and staff based on criteria established by the committee and donors wishes. Criteria may include financial need, academic achievement, community and school activities, work and volunteer experience, part-time or full-time student, and enrollment in a specific program.
The WACF is organized on behalf of M State to develop scholarships and other programs for the Wadena campus and its students. The mission is to raise, manage and distribute funds to further educational goals for the benefit of M State-Wadena. Since 2008 more than $90,000 in scholarships has been awarded to help students reach their educational goals.
Scholarship awards are made possible through generous donations made to the Wadena Area College Foundation. For further information regarding donations or scholarships, please contact Catie Herman, director of advancement at (218) 631-7931.
